I am a personal trainer, yoga teacher, health coach and nutritional adviser. But that wasn’t always the case! Originally, I trained as a human rights barrister. I worked incredibly hard to get where I wanted to be, and my health suffered because of it. I was stressed, fat, sleeping poorly, surviving on junk food and energy drinks and I knew something needed to change. Slowly, I discovered how much of a difference exercise and good nutrition could make to my mood and body composition and I started taking my health a bit more seriously. However, it wasn’t until I tackled some of the broader lifestyle issues, like my sleeping patterns and stress levels, that I really started to see progress.
That’s why I am such a big advocate of taking a holistic approach to health. If you’re sleeping badly and stressed out (as so many of us are these days!) the wrong approach to training and nutrition can do more harm than good. You may have heard the saying, “you can’t out-train a bad diet” and that is certainly true. Obviously, it is no good beasting yourself in the gym 5 days a week, if you’re still shovelling down fast food and fizzy drinks! However, many people are less aware of the importance of other lifestyle factors such as proper rest, stress reduction, improving sleep habits etc.
Hitting the gym for an hour a day is unlikely to help you reach your goals if you’re not also developing healthy habits for the remaining 23 hours of the day.
That is why I eventually quit the law to pursue my passion for helping people live happier, healthier lives. Before working with a client, I conduct a thorough screening interview to understand their own unique circumstances and use this information to personally tailor plan that covers nutrition, exercise and other lifestyle factors to ensure they get the best possible results and reach their goals, whatever they may be.
Pretty much any personal trainer could devise a half decent work out programme that would at least get you some results initially, but you’re unlikely to sustain those results or achieve your long term goals without a more comprehensive approach.
Even the best programme in the world is no good if you can’t stick to it! I can help you create sustainable, life long change and develop healthy habits that help you reach your body composition and fitness goals and well as promoting wellbeing and optimal health.
I am a big believer in an evidenced based approach to health and fitness, so am always looking for new ways to develop my knowledge of all things health and fitness. As well as the qualifications detailed below, I am currently enrolled in the ACA Academy, run by the prestigious trainer and industry expert, Phil Learny.
